Some time ago I walked through installing the Cloud management solution known as CloudForms in a container. While this was fun, it was not really feasible and quickly ran into limitations in use.
In CloudForms 4.6 deploying CloudForms on top of OpenShift is fully supported and we will post more information about this soon.
The real solution is pulling this example into the Red Hat Demo Central collection and put it on a Cloud solution based on open technologies. This gives you the chance to go from your laptop, to Cloud installation and onwards to a Cloud Operations solution in just minutes.

Containers have rapidly evolved from being used for development and testing to production. Today, many vendors provide container products supporting enterprise IT production workloads. Red Hat offers OpenShift, an open source container platform based on Kubernetes.

The CloudForms 4.1 release (June ’16) delivered a new format for the CloudForms appliance: as a container in docker format. CloudForms has led the way by offering the appliance in several different virtualization and cloud formats, such as:
- Red Hat Virtualization
- Red Hat OpenStack Platform
- Google Cloud Platform
- Microsoft Azure
- Microsoft SCVMM (Hyper-v)
- VMware vSphere
With the new CloudForms container you can now host CloudForms on:
- Red Hat OpenShift Enterprise 3
- Red Hat Atomic Host (7.2 or higher)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (7.2 or higher)
- Anywhere using docker
